FC Isle of Man is delighted to announce that Gill Christian has been appointed the club’s new Chairperson.
This is a great addition to the Ravens’ organisation as Gill will bring a wealth of important experience from both the business and the sporting worlds, which will be vital as the club continues to grow.
As well as being a senior Isle of Man advocate and law firm Director, Gill is a true football enthusiast and is one of the leading footballing personalities on the Island. As a player, Gill captained the Isle of Man national team for over twelve years, during which time she played in six Island Games tournaments winning a Bronze Medal in Aland 2009 and a Silver Medal at the Isle of Wight Games in 2011.
In addition to her footballing career Gill has also been prominent on the governance side of sport and in recent years she has been a Board Member of the Isle of Man Football Association (a role Gill has recently relinquished). Furthermore, Gill has also held a long-term role as Honorary Legal Advisor to the Island Games Association and to the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association.
Gill takes over from Gary Weightman, who stepped down as Chairperson last week, and said:
I am genuinely thrilled and honoured to have been asked to take on this role.
I love my football and have always taken a close interest in the local game and FC Isle of Man intrigued me from the beginning, so it didn’t take long for me to accept the opportunity to join an already excellent team of people.
I’ve got big shoes to fill, however, as Gary (Weightman) did such a fantastic job as the previous Chair and it is amazing what the club have achieved in such a short period of time.
I am genuinely excited about everything to come and I am really looking forward to getting started and helping FC Isle of Man become a hugely successful community club, both on and off the pitch.
FC Isle of Man Sporting Director, Paul Jones said:
Everyone at FC Isle of Man is extremely pleased to welcome Gill to the club.
As we embark on the next phrase of the project, we are fortunate to have someone as experienced as Gill for the role of Chair. She is an outstanding person and fantastic role model within our community.
The Board are looking forward to working with Gill over the coming weeks and months ahead while we continue our preparations for the time that FC Isle of Man can begin playing regularly in the North West Counties League.
