MATCH PREVIEW: Barnoldswick Town (H)

FC Isle of Man will be frustrated with the result last week vs Squires Gate, mainly at not putting their chances away on the night to kill the match but should be encouraged with the amount of chances created as they set their sights to another home match against Barnoldswick Town on Saturday where they will look to get all 3 points.

You can hear the post match interview and highlights from that game below and the match report is available here.

The opposition this week is Barnoldswick Town who currently sit just one position behind the Ravens in 10th. Due to recent weather across the UK there have been several games postponed in the last few weeks. This has impacted Barnoldswick, they haven’t played in the league since 25th November, a game vs Squires Gate at home which ended in a 2-2 draw. Their most recent game was on Tuesday 28th November in the West Riding County Cup Second Round vs Ossett United who play in the Northern Premier League Division One East, a game that they lost 4-0.

The history of our opposition (Barnoldswick Town)

The club was founded as Barnoldswick United (1972) at a meeting of two pre-existing clubs, Bethesda F.C. and Barnoldswick Sports Club F.C. Which was held in the Cross Keys in Barnoldswick on Tuesday 28th June 1972.

Brian (Bill) Bowditch who had been instrumental in organising the merger became club secretary. Two teams were entered into the Craven Football League and the first ever game was played on

Saturday 16th September 1972. The next major landmark in the club’s history came in 1983 when Bill Bowditch, ably supported by civil engineer and player Ian Nutter had plans approved to lease their own ground from Pendle Borough Council.

In the 2021-22 Season they saw a couple of changes welcoming back some familiar faces to the club to take over running the NWCFL Team. The NWCFL team currently proudly holding premier

division status under the management of Andy Harrison and his team.

A pound for the ground & golden goal

To help raise money for the club we run two competitions on game day and it is your chance to support the club whilst being in with the chance of winning some money! Cash or card is taken for both and tickets can be purchased from the merchandise table.

Golden Goal

Each ticket for golden goal costs just £2 and contains a concealed minute, if the goal is scored in the minute you have then you have won! The winner will be announced over the PA when the first goal of the game is scored. The winner will receive £90!

A Pound for the Ground

New to FC Isle of Man and currently on a trial basis is a pound for the ground! The tickets are just £1 each and the winner takes 40% of sales. This operates like a tombola, where for each £1 you get a ticket with a unique number on. It is then drawn from the Ravens tombola box at half time.

Merchandise

We have a small merchandise table at the ground which is located next to Gate A. This week we will have:

  • Mugs
  • Water Bottles
  • Air Fresheners
  • Key Rings

They are open from 8am until 4:30pm, Monday to Friday and from 8am until 4pm on a Saturday.

Catering

We will have both Douglas Pizza Company and Prep Fresh at the ground on Saturday to keep you watered and fed! Douglas Pizza Company will be offering hot dogs, tea, coffee and confectionary. Prep Fresh will be offering brisket baps, tea, coffee and confectionary.
