Match Report: Fleetwood Town (H)

FC Isle of Man went down fighting as we were narrowly beaten by League Two side Fleetwood Town on Friday night.

The second game in our Summer Festival of Football, the game was a great test for the team ahead of our season getting underway next weekend.

Keeper Adam Killey was called into action early on as Fleetwood worked their way through the Ravens midfield, but he came out well and made a big save.

Clever play from Ben Wosser and Dean Pinnington nearly saw the Ravens take the lead from a short corner that was well saved at the near post.

After a tight 20 minutes, Killey made another good stop as a fizzed Fleetwood cross was turned goal wards, with him getting a big hand down to his left hand side.

Town would take the lead in the 27th minute when a free kick fell to the feet of James Bolton who poked home.

The Ravens weren’t behind long though as Ste Whitley burst down the left, he worked his way one on one with Fleetwood’s keeper making a good save, only for Luke Booth to tap in at back post to make it 1-1 at the break.

In the second half, Fleetwood took the lead again when a cross from the right by Matty Virtue was headed home by Ryan Graydon.

With Fleetwood making a mess at the back under pressure from Charlie Higgins, he was able to capitalise and level the game at 2-2 with just 10 minutes to go.

With the Ravens’ fans daring to dream of a chance on the break, Fleetwood’ Mark Helm cut in from the left and fired home to make a final score of 2-3 to the Cod Army.
