University College Isle of Man (UCM) and FC Isle of Man are delighted to announce a new collaboration between the two parties and will launch an exciting new full-time football course which will start in September 2021 at UCM.
The course is the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Football Studies (which is equivalent to three A-Levels) and is aimed at young men and women who are passionate about football and have a desire to learn more about how the sport operates across several facets of the game, whether it be playing, coaching or administration.
John Lund, Sport Lecturer at UCM said:
From the conversations we have had with current and prospective students, we believe this course will be very popular among young people on the island. It is an excellent opportunity for our students to learn about a subject that they are passionate about, whilst gaining a wide range of industry experience with FC Isle of Man as the club journeys towards the Football League.
We hope this course and experience will empower and inspire each student towards future studies while developing the skills required for a successful career in football or other team sports.
Gill Christian, FC Isle of Man Chairperson said:
Providing new and exciting opportunities for our local community is a key element of FC Isle of Man’s constitution therefore we are delighted to be joining forces with UCM in this fantastic new initiative.
Alongside UCM’s excellent group of tutors we aim to provide opportunities for experiential learning based on real-life case studies and projects related to FC Isle of Man. Students can expect access to, and experience, all parts of the club as part of their studies including playing and coaching, game analysis, business, marketing, media, administrative and logistical roles involved in running a successful football club.
We would like to thank our sponsors Manx Telecom and Rex Motor Company, as their respective investment in our club has enabled us to expand our remit and allow a project such as this to be progressed. We believe this course will give prospective students who are considering a career in the game or related team sports an excellent grounding benefiting not only themselves but the wider football and sports community on the island.
For those who are 16 or over and interested in this course, they can apply online at www.ucm.ac.im.
