Week 11 Preview – Eccleshall

Another hectic week of games for the Ravens commences this weekend with a trip to the West Midlands to take on Eccleshall at Pershall Park.

We are in a decent vein of form at present and the lads will be looking to continue their steady ascent of the Division One (South) on their travels to Staffordshire on Saturday.

Our Opponents this Week

Nicknamed ‘The Eagles’, Eccleshall FC were established in 1971. After many years playing in the Stafford Senior League and the re-branded Midland League, they were promoted to the North West Counties League in 2003 after winning back to back Midland League championships.

Following a troublesome start to the 2020-21 season, which resulted in the Eagles losing seven out of their first eight games, they are currently in somewhat of a mini renaissance, winning two of their last four games, one of which was an impressive 6-4 victory against high riding Wythenshawe Amateurs a fortnight ago.

Last week they were unlucky to be on the wrong end of a 3-2 score line against the very competitive Abbey Hey, so the Ravens will, yet again, not be in for an easy ride this week.

FC Isle of Man Team News

As already stated, this is the start of a busy week for Chris Bass’ charges. Following this weekend’s fixture the Ravens will have another mid-week hop, skip and a jump over to play Barnton on Wednesday, and the week’s activities culminate with a journey to Abbey Hulton next Saturday.

With such a hectic schedule Bass will be delighted to welcome back Furo Davies and teenager Charlie Higgins, who were both hugely impressive against New Mills ten days ago.

Likewise, Sam Baines returns after seeing his streak of starting every game come to an end last week at Ellesmere Rangers. The same can be said for goalkeeper Dean Kearns, who also missed his first game of the season last week after picking up a knock at New Mills. Matthew Quirk ably stepped in to make his debut.
