Week 9 Preview – New Mills

The Ravens are on a roll. Three consecutive wins in all competitions, but the games are coming thicker and faster as we travel across the Lancs/Cheshire ‘border’ into Derbyshire tonight to play New Mills.

This will be a tough one as the Millers sit second in the league and are unbeaten so far this season.

Our Opponents this Week

Originally formed in 1886, New Mills are one of the oldest clubs in the country, never mind the NWCFL. Throughout the years they’ve played in various leagues including the Manchester League and the Cheshire League, but they were accepted into the NWCFL in 2002.

In recent years they have played as high as the Northern Premier League (after being crowned NWCFL Premier Division Champions) but were relegated in 2016 after losing their opening 26 league games, a campaign which prompted a nation wide TV advert involving Harry Redknapp.

As stated above, this season New Mills are absolutely flying and they have won nine of their opening ten fixtures, and the only points they have dropped is against the only team above them in the table, West Didsbury & Chorlton.

FC Isle of Man Team News

It’s a quick turnaround for Chris Bass’ chargers following the Ravens historic FA Vase win on Saturday at Avro and inevitably a couple of minor injuries picked up on the day may affect squad/team selection.

However, this is not a new scenario for Bass and assistant Lee Dixon to deal with and someone’s disappointment will be someone else’s opportunity. So far this season every player in the squad has stepped up when required, whether experienced or unexperienced, whether young or …. not so young.

Whatever team takes the field at Church Lane tonight will do the club proud.

Kick off is 19.45.
